Intro

I love Cast Iron Cornbread!  This recipe is simple and the Cast Iron Cornbread just tastes so good with a rack of ribs, slow cooker chili, or even with just a little butter!  Cast Iron Cornbread is an amazing bread side dish that can go really well with almost any meal you prepare.  I really love it with any BBQ, especially with my Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs!

Out of all the bread, I make this one is the best and one of the more easy bread recipes that I know how to make.  I’ve had a few different cornbread recipes, but this one I’m sharing with all of you today is by far the best version that I’ve come across!  You will need a 10 to 12 inch Cast Iron Skillet.  If you don’t have a Cast Iron Skillet I highly recommend getting one.  Here is a link to one in our shop.  However, if you have a skillet that is safe to use in the oven of the same size that will work as well.

Seriously give it a try next time you make ribs or a hearty soup!

Men you can do this!

Ingredients

  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 ¼ Cups of Milk
  • ¼ Cup of Honey
  • 2 Cups of cornmeal
  • 2 Cups of Flour
  • 1 Cup of Sugar
  • 1 tsp of Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 2 sticks of Butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees with the Cast iron skillet in the oven to get it warm
  2. In one bowl mix together the egg, milk, & honey.
  3. In another bowl combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and the salt.
  4. Start to melt the butter.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients from the first bowl into the second larger bowl with the dry ingredients and mix together for about 10 seconds.
  6. Now add the melted butter to the bowl and mix the butter in.
  7. Remove the skillet from the oven. (Careful it will be hot now!)
  8. Pour the mixture into the skillet and spread evenly.
  9. Place in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes.  Use a toothpick to test.  If it comes out clean then you are all set.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool.
  11. Serve with butter or as a side for BBQ or Chili!
