Pizza Detroit What!

Men Can Cook Chef Level:  Welterweight

Yields 12 Square Slices

Intro

Pizza Detroit What is my play on a Detroit Style pizza that is not very difficult and worth the time it takes to make.  I’m not going to lie this one takes some time to prepare for and you need a special pan.  Here is a link to the pan.  The pan is the key to this recipe, so if you don’t have one just forget about it.  The part that takes the most time is making your own dough which is totally worth it.  Now the dough is not hard if you have the right tools!  For this dough, I utilize a food processor to do the heavy lifting.  Here is a link to a good food processor and yes if you purchase through my store it will help the website.  Pizza Detroit What is another pizza that you need in your life and I highly recommend giving this recipe a shot and leveling up your pizza-making game!

Beer Pairing

Pizza and Beer are the best food pairing on earth!  I like a light or a heavy lager.  However, I have yet to find a beer that doesn’t enhance the pizza experience.  Experiment with this!  Get a pizza and a six-pack once a week with a friend and if you find a beer and pizza combo that doesn’t work let me know and I’ll call you a liar!  Just some fun here!  Enjoy this recipe!

Men you can do this!

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ Cups of Bread Flour
  • 2tsp of yeast
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1tsp of sugar
  • ¾ cup of warm water
  • 1TBS of Olive oil
  • 3 cups of Shredded Mozzarella or if you can find it Brick Cheese
  • 15 ounces of  Pizza Sauce
  • 1 TBS Olive Oil
  • 1-1 ½ TBS of Garlic Paste
  • 1 Tsp of Italian Seasoning
  • 20-30 slices of Pepperoni

Directions

  1. Pull out your…Food Processor! (What were you thinking sicko?!)
  2. Add in the flour, yeast, salt, & sugar.
  3. Give these dry ingredients a few pulses in the food processor to mix everything together.
  4. Now turn the food processor on low and slowly pour in the warm water and the Olive Oil. This process should take 60 to 90 seconds.
  5. Remove the dough and place it on a lightly floured cutting board. Knead the dough a few times to smooth it out and create a small ball.
  6. Take a bowl and lightly coat it with some olive oil. Then add the dough to the bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
  7. Set this bowl in a warm place for 2 hours giving the dough time to work magic and double in size.
  8. Once the 2 hours is up take out your pizza pan and the inside with a heavy coating of olive oil. This will help to keep the dough and cheese from sticking.  It will also help when it comes to removing the pizza from the pan.
  9. Take the dough from the bowl and move it to the pan.
  10. Use your hands to gently spread the dough as best you can out evenly across the bottom of the pan. At this point, it may not completely cover the bottom.  That is ok!
  11. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and a towel. Place it in a warm place for another 30 minutes.  This will give the flour more time to do its thing.
  12. During the 30 minutes, you can shred your cheese and preheat your oven to 500 degrees! Yeah, it needs to be this hot!
  13. In a small bowl mix together the garlic paste, olive oil, & Italian seasoning.
  14. Take out the pan with the dough. You should now be able to spread the dough all the way to the edges of the pan.  Just take your time and try to keep the dough as even as possible.
  15. Now baste the dough with the garlic paste mixture. This is the flavor level that makes this amazing.
  16. Cheese it up! Add in the three cups of cheese over the dough.
  17. Spread 15oz of your favorite Pizza Sauce over the cheese. Don’t go too crazy with the sauce this is the best amount for this type of Pizza!
  18. Cover with your favorite toppings for this one I just put on Pepperoni, but make it your own! Add what you like to your pizza!
  19. Put the pan in the oven for 20 minutes.
  20. Remove from the oven once the pizza smells amazing and everything is bubbling!
  21. Use a butter knife to help release the sides of the pizza from the pan.
  22. You can now remove the pizza from the pan utilizing a couple of spatulas and cut it into square pieces!
  23. Plate and enjoy Pizza Detroit What!
