Intro

Poutine Power up Snack is a good one from our friends up north!  I had this wonderful snack a few years ago and decided recently to try and recreate it here at the old homestead.  I did my research and tested out a few different versions.  Then I landed on this recipe to share with all of you.  Poutine Power up Snack is fun to make and tastes amazing!  Grab a beer and put on some sports!  I usually watch UFC Fights or Hockey!  Hockey seems more fitting for this meal.  The NHL is just starting late this year. Dam you 2020!

One more thing for Poutine Power up Snack the creation of the fries, I’m giving you two options.  You can Air fry them or you can double fry them in peanut oil.  I highly recommend for the best tasting the double fry in peanut oil.  The Fries are crispier and just a little tastier, but this does take more time and less healthy if you care about that.  If you need a Cast Iron Skillet or an Air Fryer check out my Shop.  If neither of these float options your boat even frozen fries you bake could work.  Anyway grab a cold Labatt Beer and enjoy Poutine Power up Snack!

Men you can do this!

Ingredients

  • 3 TBS of Arrowroot
  • 2TBS of Water
  • 2 ½ Cups of Beef Broth
  • 1 Stick of Butter
  • ¼ Cup of Flour
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 6oz Cheese Curds
  • 2 Medium Sized Potatoes
  • 24oz of Peanut Oil (Optional)

Directions

  1. Cut up the potatoes into fries and add them to a bowl of water to soak for about an hour.
  2. In a small bowl mix the Arrowroot and water together and set this aside for later.
  3. In a medium saucepan add the butter and melt it down over medium heat.
  4. When the butter is about done melting add in the flour and then the beef broth.
  5. Let this almost come to a boil and then add the arrowroot mix.
  6. Reduce the heat and let the stir while the gravy starts to thicken. Salt and Pepper to taste.
  7. Once it reaches its desired thickness and taste remove it from heat and set aside for later.
  8. If you are Air frying the potatoes you will add them to the basket and lightly cover them with oil. Air Fry them at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes stopping every 5 minutes to shake them up.
  9. For Double frying add the peanut oil to a cast-iron skillet and bring the oil to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Add the fries and let them fry for about 7 to 10 minutes.  Remove from oil and let cool on a rack over paper towels.
  10. Let the oil recover and bring the heat to at least 350 to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the Fries are completely cooled add them back to the oil and fry until golden brown.
  11. Remove from oil and plate.
  12. Once the fries are on the plate reheat your Gravy. Add the Cheese Curds to the fries while the gravy heats up.
  13. Once the gravy is properly heated pour it over the fries and curds. The gravy should slightly melt the curds.
  14. Crack a Labatt Blue, watch hockey, play the Canadian anthem, and enjoy!
