Short little intro here on this review. Matt-Hat Jerky was MenFoodFlavor’s first Instagram follower! I showed my support by purchasing his product the same day!

Matt-Hat Jerky is 100% Beef, Low carb, No Nitrates, No Sugar, & No MSG. Matthew Kuplack, who happens to be 11 years old, started Matt-Hat Jerky in 2017 from a secret recipe that was given to him by his Grandfather. With the help of his older twin sisters, he started making and selling this Jerky. Sales started in his neighborhood and to the students and teachers at school. The product is available online as well and just recently he has opened a store in Moscow, Pa. That’s right this is a Pennsylvania product! For those of you that don’t know MenFoodFlavor is also based here in the Commonwealth of PA!

I tried 4 different flavors of his Jerky. They are Original, Spicy Original, Black Truffle, & Slap your Grandma Spicy! Each bag is resealable and contains an added bonus of a Plackers Micro Mint Dental Flosser! Which I found to be awesome because I was able to clean up a little after consuming a few pieces! Each back except for the Black Truffle was a 3oz Bag. The Black Truffle was in a 2oz bag. This amounts to about 6 to 7 good size pieces of Jerky.
Original
The Original had great flavor. It was easy to chew and I didn’t find myself trying to rip a bite off of each piece. They broke nicely with each bite without much problem. Overall it was very comparable to other major brands of Jerky I’ve eaten and I found it hit the spot as an after-work snack on my commute home. Solid Jerky flavor and easy to eat! Thumbs up!
Spicy Original
The Spice Original had the same great flavor as the original, but with a slight kick to it. Not a major kick. It was there, but not slap you in the face spicy. I didn’t need a drink of water or anything to wash down the spice. This out of the four flavors this had to be my favorite and I do plan on ordering more of this Jerky.
Black Truffle
The Black Truffle I assumed is meant to be of slightly higher quality. I’m guessing this from the fact that Black Truffle is expensive because of its difficulty to be farmed. Also, you only got a 2oz Bag as opposed to the 3oz Bags of the other three. This is my first Black Truffle Jerky! I found the flavor to be quite enjoyable and was impressed by it. It had the same characteristics as the other Jerky, but it had a nutty and earthy flavor to it. Another Thumbs up from this guy!
Slap your Grandma Spicy
Wow, this one lives up to its name! On the package, it warns you to wash your hands after touching the Jerky. I took this warning seriously, but I still thought to myself that I should be fine. Well, I ate one piece and my tough was on fire! I washed my hands and drank a little milk to offset the heat that Grandma brought on! The rest of the bag was consumed over the course of a week. I enjoyed the jerky, but a warning to others the jerky is spicy and if you can’t handle spicy food’s I’d suggest sticking to the Original or Black truffle. One key thing to note is even with the spiciness of this you still had the underlining Matt-Hat Jerky Flavor! Not an everyday Jerky, but I’d eat a piece even now and again!
Cost/Affordability
I purchased the 4 bag sampler and it cost me $27.99 before shipping. So I got 11oz of Jerky for $27.99. That works out to $2.54 an oz. This falls right in the average price of jerky right now. I’m not including shipping. That will increase the price slightly, but not so much that it puts it out of affordability. I think it is price correctly and honestly with the quality maybe a little low just don’t tell Matt!
Overall thoughts
In conclusion, I would recommend this product. The Original and the Spicy Original are very enjoyable and are a great jerky. The other 2 are good, but for me fall under more of a specialty Jerky that I’d buy for a special treat. Funny story one of my coworkers this week gave me another Jerky that was a special treat…Bear Jerky. He had taken down a Bear here in PA with a Bow this past fall. I enjoyed it as well. Matt-Hat Jerky is a great product and produced here in the Commonwealth of PA which I find to be awesome! So get a bag and enjoy it!
