Can Opener

Product Review: Soko’s Can Opener

Product

This is a small compact battery powered can opener from Soko.  I purchased this can opener a couple years ago as a replacement for a hand crank type can opener.  I had struggled with purchasing cheap can openers and not wanting a big wall plug-in unit that would take up space on my kitchen countertop. The problem with the hand crank openers was they either broke or the cutter becoming dull quickly which resulted in them not cutting thru the can.  I was searching for a can opener that would last and was easy to use.  This can opener has filled that need quite well but has a few downsides that I will explain in this review.

Use of Product

How do you use this product?  Well, you place the opener on the top of the can and line up the cutter and the crank to the edge of the can.  Then you press the button and the opener works its way around the can cutting the top off the can.  After it comes to a stop you remove the opener and then remove the top of the can.  It is simple to use and doesn’t take long to open a standard soup can.

However, if you have a larger can the opener doesn’t go all the way around the can, so you will need to line it up where it stopped and then press the button to have it finish opening the can.  This sort of sucks because it takes time to line it up again and it doesn’t sense when it has finished cutting the rest of the top, so you have to watch it.  If you don’t the opener can come off the top on its own and can fall off or worse it can spill the contents of the can.

Final Conclusions

If you could select the size can you are opening this would be THE CAN OPENER.  Also if I had to make another suggestion it would have a battery that was built in and rechargeable. This would save on battery purchases.  It’s slightly more expensive than other electric openers and can be double the price of the hand crank opener.  This Can Opener is very durable, is powered by AA batteries (which is a common battery), and is compact.  The major upside for me was that it fits in a drawer and doesn’t take up valuable counter space.  The Soko can opener also works wonderfully on standard size cans.  Overall with a score of 7.8, I would recommend this product and have it available in our Shop.
