Sausage Gravy & Biscuits

Men Can Cook Chef Level:  Featherweight

Yields 8 Servings

Intro

This is one of my favorite breakfast recipes!  This recipe is super easy to make and is probably why I’ve been making it for over 20 years.  I’ve experimented with this one a lot and this is the basic recipe that you can build on.  What do I mean by that?  Well stick to the recipe, but the key to changing the flavor is using different versions of breakfast sausage, pepper seasoning, or even change up the milk you use in the recipe.  Make your own biscuits from scratch or just pick some up from the store to make.  There are several varieties of biscuits you can find at the store.  If you want to make your own, which I don’t usually, but the recipe I use is this one it is a basic easy recipe.

The real winner here is the sausage gravy.  The milk you use is important and I’d suggest for your first attempt at this to use either whole milk or 2%.  These two will make the best gravy, but almond milk will work in a pinch or if you want something healthier. I’d also recommend using a medley peppercorn pepper as it seems to bring the best flavor.  If you want to try something different put a little white pepper in.  Follow the recipe and play with the ingredients to get your desired flavor!  Enjoy!

Men you can do this!

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups of Milk
  • 2 TBS of Corn Starch
  • 4 TBS of Butter
  • 1 lb. of Breakfast Sausage
  • 8 Biscuits
  • ¼ Teaspoon of Salt (Or to taste)
  • ¼ Teaspoon of Pepper (Or to taste)

Directions

  1. Start this meal by preparing your biscuits.  I used the store-bought can type, so I’ll preheat the oven and get them started.  Then I’ll start on the Sausage Gravy.
  2. In a saucepan combined the Milk & Cornstarch.  Wisk those together until the cornstarch dissolves into the milk.
  3. Add the butter and let it melt into the milk.  Add in the Pepper and Salt.  Lower the heat to low and continue to mix the gravy as it thickens up.
  4. In a skillet brown up the sausage.  Once the sausage is browned you can pour off some of the fat if you want.  I usually leave it and pour the gravy right into the sausage skillet.
  5. Mix the gravy and sausage together and give it a taste.  This is where you will add more seasoning depending on taste.  The sausage will add to the gravy and give you a good idea as to how much more seasoning it will need.
  6. Once the biscuits are cooked and cooled break a couple in half and pour the sausage & gravy over them.  Then enjoy your meal!
