Grilling the Chicken

Basted Grilled Chicken Drumsticks & Jalapeno Poppers

Men Can Cook Chef Level:  Lightweight

Yields 20 Chicken Drumsticks (4 to a serving)

Intro

Basted Grilled Chicken Drumsticks is a simple and fun recipe that tests your basic grilling skills.  I’m also included in how to make your most basic grilled Jalapeno Poppers.  Basic Popper, but tasty!  More Popper Recipes to come.  Now for this recipe you will need to have a grill I recommend the products that are linked here in my shop.  In my recipe example here for Basted Grilled Chicken Drumsticks I used a charcoal grill, but a propane grill will also work.  If you have some time read up about mastering Charcoal grilling here at Weber.

Basted Grilled Chicken Drumsticks uses a vinegar baste that gives this grilled chicken its incredible flavor.  The trick to this recipe is to prepare the vinegar to baste correctly and have it ready for the chicken before you start grilling.  What is the trick?  Well you have to warm the vinegar baste without boiling it and cooking the egg.  All while mixing the ingredients together and letting them turn into the flavorful vinegar baste.  If you boil it and the egg cooks you fail and have to disregard and start over.  I have failed, so if you do don’t worry about it!

Men you can do this!

Ingredients

Chicken & Vinegar Baste

  • 20 Chicken Drumsticks
  • ½ Cup of Oil
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 cups of white vinegar
  • ½ TSP Poultry seasoning
  • Dash of Pepper

Jalapeño Poppers

  • 3 Large Jalapenos
  • 4oz of Cream Cheese
  • 2oz of Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 TBS of Seasoning (I used The Fit Cook Everyday Seasoning)

Directions

  1. Prepare the grill by heating it up or preparing the charcoal.
  2. Beat egg into the oil in a saucepan.
  3. Add in the Vinegar, poultry seasoning, and pepper.  Mix well and heat on low medium being careful not to boil the vinegar baste.
  4. Cut the Jalapeno’s in half and deseed them.  Add the seeds to the bowl.  We use the seeds in the filling to bring some heat!
  5. Add the Cream Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, & Seasoning to the bowl with the seeds.
  6. Mix up the filling with a fork.  Use a small spoon to place the filling into each of the 6 half Jalapenos.
  7. Now the grill should be ready.  A charcoal grill will be too hot for the chicken at first, so this is the perfect time to prepare the Poppers.
  8. Place the Poppers on the Grill and let them get some color on the bottom and let the filling melt in the Jalapeño.
  9. Remove the Poppers from the grill and plate…now you have an appetizer to enjoy while you prepare the chicken.
  10. Now that the grill temperature is slightly reduced you can add the Chicken Drumsticks to the grill and baste them with the sauce.
  11. Turn and baste the Chicken Drumsticks over the course of the next 25 minutes.  Each time you turn make sure to baste the Chicken Drumsticks.
  12. This may take less or more time.  Use an instant-read thermometer to see when the chicken reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  13. Once the temperature is reached remove the Chicken Drumsticks from the grill, plate, & enjoy your meal.
