Intro

Another slow cooker recipe for the community here.  Slow Cooker Ribs is a super simple recipe that utilizes a custom simple rub to bring the magic here.  I have to give credit to my old man for this one.  My Dad one day before a Pittsburgh Steeler game made these for the family.  He also made his special BBQ sauce for them as well.  Maybe I’ll share that as well someday.  It took a little while to get the recipe out of him, but after several years he shared it with us.  Now I’m sharing Slow Cooker Ribs with all of you lovely people on the internet.  It should be shared it’s that simple and delicious.

In this instance, I used a no-sugar BBQ sauce on these ribs.  I’ve been trying to cut back on my sugar intake, but not eliminate it.  I’m trying to find a balance that works for me as I approach the big 40 later this year.  The sauce comes in 3 flavors and so far I’ve had 2 of them.  It’s called G Hughes Smokehouse Sure Free BBQ sauce.  I’ve had the Hickory & Honey both are excellent.  The maple I’m guessing is also great.  Slow Cooker Ribs would go great with any of these flavors.  If you want to check it out it is available through my shop.  Click here!

Beer pairing

For Slow Cooker Ribs, I like to go with a porter or a dark lager.  I’m going to leave it up to you as the reader to find one.  Hey, why don’t you comment on what porter or dark lager you like?  Go ahead I would like to see what my readers are drinking!

The dark malty flavor of porters really goes well with this slow-cooked pork rib.  They seem to enhance the seasoning!  Alright, enough talk writing let’s get to the recipe!

Men you can do this!

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp of paprika
  • 1tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of dried thyme
  • ¼ tsp of freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp of cayenne pepper
  • 3lbs of baby back pork ribs cut into 4 rib pieces

Directions

  1. Coat slow cooker with cooking spray.
  2. Then combine the paprika, salt, thyme, and peppers into a small bowl and mix.
  3. Now rub the mixture on all sides of the ribs. Don’t be shy cover them all up!
  4. Place ribs in a slow cooker and cover on low for 7 to 8 hours. I’d stick to the low setting, but if you must rush on high for 3 to 3 ½ hours.
  5. You will know they are done when the meat starts to pull away and fall off of the ribs. The wonderful aroma they give off will also give you a hint if they are done.
  6. Remove ribs from slow cooker and coat them with your favorite BBQ sauce. Discard the liquid from the slow cooker.
  7. Then return them to the slow cooker for 30 minutes on high or until they are glazed with the sauce!
  8. Finally remove from slow cooker, plate, & enjoy!

I left off the BBQ sauce for the information below because I want you to use the BBQ Sauce you like the best.  With that said if you go without BBQ sauce, I think you will find them just as enjoyable!  No judgment here I covered them in the BBQ sauce I mentioned above!
